Green Programs at The Westin Verasa Napa

CA Green Lodging

The Westin Verasa Napa has instituted planet-friendly practices that go beyond "Green", while also promoting cultural sustainability and environmental responsibility. A proud member of the California Green Lodging Program and the Clean the World partner, we encourage you to take a glimpse at some of the green hotel programs currently in place while staying with us.

Make a Green Choice at The Westin Verasa Napa. We invite guests to go greener for mother earth. Each room has an opt-in linen and towel replacement program that reduces the amount of water, chlorine, and detergents used in the cleaning process. You can choose to decline housekeeping service by hanging a "You Tidy, We Treat" card by 2pm to reduce energy, water and chemical consumption. In return for going green, guests receive a $5 gift card or 500 SPG points for each day they participate.

Clean the World's One Project unites the fortunate with the less fortunate to benefit the overarching community. Clean the World is a program that brings relief in the form of hygiene kits to individuals within our community and distributes these kits to shelters, missions, and disaster relief effort locations. Clean the World provides hope, togetherness, awareness and change for those who need it most.

Energy & Water Conservation

Westin Heavenly® Showers
We are excited to introduce you to our new environmentally friendly Heavenly® Shower designed in collaboration with Kohler Company – a luxurious overhead rain experience and handheld wand that will pamper you while delivering a 50% reduction in water consumption.

High Efficiency Lighting
Lighting accounts for 15-25% of electricity consumption in hotels. Using higher efficiency lamps, such as compact fluorescent lamp bulbs (CFLs) and light emitting diodes (LEDs), directly reduces this consumption and the associated emissions, and also reduces air conditioning loads as they do not produce as much heat as traditional incandescent lamps. We have been switching to CFL lighting in many areas of the hotel  and are in the process of updating all areas where possible. LED lighting is used on all exterior signage and we're switching to LED for all exit signs.
Water Drop

"GreenVent" Kitchen Technology
We are an early adopter of "GreenVent " technology for kitchen exhaust and make up air. A system of sensors constantly monitors smoke and heat to determine demand and adjusts variable speed motors for both exhaust and make up air to achieve maximum efficiency and significant energy cost savings.

The kitchen master refrigeration system uses a high efficiency water cooled heat exchanger to maximize energy efficiency. The kitchen also uses a pair of "instant on " hot water heaters for improved energy efficiency.

The Westin Verasa Napa - Heated Saltwater Pool

Salt Water Extraction System
We are proud to be one of the few hotels in Napa Valley to feature a cutting edge salt water extraction system in our outdoor pool and hot tub. The system guarantees 99.9% bacteria free water without the use of harsh chemicals.

Heating, cooling, and ventilating commercial buildings is responsible for more than half of commercial building energy use and costs. Here at The Westin Verasa Napa, we have installed Gemlink thermostats that turn off when the guest room is unoccupied.  Using occupancy-based controls for HVAC ensures that spaces are conditioned only when needed.

Waste Minimization

Waste deposited in landfills and incinerators directly and indirectly contribute to pollution and the depletion of natural resources. Landfill and incinerator processes contaminate soil, air and groundwater. Reusing and recycling waste can reduce environmental burdens and extend the life of existing landfills. Implemented in 2011, The Westin Verasa Napa's recycling program is the green thumb of our hotel's eco-friendly practices. Each department contains designated receptacles to collect recycled materials such as paper, plastic, cardboard, glass, aluminum, fluorescent light bulbs, toner cartridges, oil, batteries and pallets. Composting bins are located in our employee cafeteria, restaurant, banquet and room service departments.

Hazardous/Controlled Waste Management
Fluorescent bulbs, batteries, ballasts and various electronics contain toxic materials, including mercury, lead, cadmium, and PCBs. These products must be properly disposed of. Following collection, our hazardous waste (lamps, batteries, etc.) from the hotel are returned to our suppliers for proper waste disposal.
Organic Waste Management
Our cooking oil from our kitchen is being picked up by a local company for recycling. After being recycled, refined and tested at the company's facilities, restaurant oil/grease is used as a feedstock in the manufacture of bio-diesel.
Elimination of Styrofoam
By eliminating Styrofoam use, hotels can protect human health and mitigate environmental degradation associated with polystyrene manufacturing. Chronic exposure to foamed polystyrene, or Styrofoam, can cause irritation to skin, eyes, and upper-respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts.  The use of Styrofoam has been completely eliminated in our hotel. All our take-out containers, cutlery, etc. are made of post consumer, biodegradable materials.

Sustainable Dining

Local Suppliers
Whenever possible, it is our goal to use locally sourced produce, sustainable seafood and humanely raised meats. We also offer vegetarian meal selections. Locally sourced product supports local business, potentially reduces the need for excessive preservatives, provides for fresher produce, and reduces carbon emissions associated with long distance transport.

Meeting Green

Green Meetings
Westin Clutter-Free Meetings helps planners and guests stay organized and productive with an open room design/layout and socially conscious amenities. Streamlined stations provide paper, pens, glasses, water and other thoughtful touches, keeping the main work area uncluttered and organized. “Green” features such as energy-efficient light bulbs, double-sided meeting pads and water pitchers in lieu of bottled water help eliminate waste and reduce consumption.
